    Dumpster Rental Orlando Florida FAQ

Renting a dumpster in Orlando is easy, but there may still be some unknowns on your mind. Find answers to the most popular dumpster rental questions below or read our full roll-off dumpster rental FAQs here.

If your dumpster will be placed on public property (like a street or sidewalk) or on private property that doesn't have its own driveway or designated parking area, you likely need a permit from the City of Orlando.

Generally, permits are required for larger dumpsters (typically exceeding 15 cubic yards). Smaller ones may be allowed without a permit if placed on private property. But even if your dumpster is small, you may need a permit if it will be placed in a way that could obstruct traffic or public access.

We recommend that you check the City of Orlando's website "Request a Roll-Off Dumpster" page to see if your situation requires a permit, or that you contact the city directly at 407-245-0700 to discuss your specific situation and get official guidance.

Yes, your roll-off dumpsters will come with one of two door types:

    Handle-style locks:

Unlocking and locking roll-off dumpster doors with handle-style locks is easy. First, remove the safety chains from the locks, but keep them nearby. Look for safety pins, hooks, or latches near the handle and take them out. Lift the handle, and the door will open. To close it, push the door firmly, and the handle will fall back into place. Don't forget to put back the safety pins or latches, and reattach any chains you removed.

    Ratchet style locks:

Opening dumpsters with ratchet-style locks requires a bit more effort, but it's manageable. Start by taking off any safety chains. Remove the safety pin or latch, and locate the ratcheting device. Press the small switch inside the handle to engage the gear. Move the ratchet up and down until the door is free. To close it, hold the door shut and use the ratchet to secure it back in place.

Dumpster rental pricing is affected by service location, type of waste material, volume of the dumpster, and length of the rental. In the Orlando area, dumpster rentals start from $395 for a 10-yard dumpster filled with household items, to $675 for a 30-yard dumpster filled with construction and demolition debris.

Sourgum's prices include all taxes and fees, and we announce any potential overages you may face in advance before you place your order. The only time you may pay extra on your dumpster rental is if you exceed the weight or duration on your order, and even then we charge a fair, prorated fee so you will not break the bank. You may also incur an extra fee if our driver cannot deliver or pick up the dumpster, but we work with you to make sure that does not happen!

    Preparation for Delivery

Once you have completed the ordering and payment process, the next step is to prepare for your dumpster delivery. All that we ask is that you ensure that there are no obstructions at the desired delivery location; otherwise, the delivery truck will not have enough space to place the dumpster. We understand that you may have a busy schedule, so we do not require anyone to be home for the delivery, as long as the area is clear. You may submit detailed delivery instructions at the time of order, and, if we have any questions, we'll call you to make sure we get it perfectly right.

    Dumpster Loading and Pickup

Finally, you've successfully received your dumpster and it is time to load it. Remember not to put any hazardous items into the dumpster, such as asbestos, wet paints, and lithium batteries. You can check our complete What Can and Cannot Go Into a Dumpster guide to learn more about the proper disposal of different materials. After you finish loading the dumpster, let us know and we will schedule a pickup for you and transport the waste to the appropriate sorting facility in the Orlando area.

What Should I Do With Items That Can’t Go Inside the Dumpster?

The Solid Waste Division of Orlando has summarized items that you should and should not put into your recycling cart. It is especially important that do not throw any plastic bags in the recycling bin, as they can shut down the recycling machinery. For plastic or glass bottles and containers, please empty and clean them out before recycling, so that they will not contaminate the other “good” recyclables. You can use the recycling search tool to find out the correct ways to dispose of a waste item; just enter the name of an item, and the tool will show you acceptable options for disposal.

In Orlando, hazardous waste cannot be collected or recycled at the curbside. Improper disposal of dangerous items such as flammables, chemicals, and pesticides can result in harm to both the environment and neighbors. If you see a product label with keywords such as "poison", "warning", "explosive", etc., you should carefully follow the local rules and dispose of them safely at a local landfill or transfer station. The Orange County Landfill located at 5901 Young Pine Road, and the Porter Transfer Station located at 1326 Good Homes Road both accept hazardous waste.

    Some Common Household Hazardous Waste:

    • Wet paint: oil and water-based, aerosols, stains

    • Pool chemicals: chlorine, acids

    • Rechargeable batteries: ni-cad, lithium

    • Fertilizers: liquid and granular

    • LP gas bottles

One big concern that residents may have is how to dispose of unwanted medicine in Orlando. The Solid Waste Division has provided information about prescription drug disposal locations. Read the document thoroughly if you have the need! If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us or call the Solid Waste Hotline at (407) 836-6601.

Got a large mattress and don't know where to discard it? You can schedule a large item collection online through Orlando's Solid Waste Division website. Just type in your home address and follow the instructions on the scheduling page. If your location is not serviced by the Solid Waste Division, come to Sourgum Waste for help! We provide convenient residential services including residential recycling and bulk trash pickup. As far as large items, we accept appliances, mattresses, furniture, and more.

Before you throw any old furniture or appliances away, please consider donating them to reuse centers, selling them at yard sales or on online marketplaces, or upcycling them to give them a second life.

Orlando Solid Waste Initiative: Hurricane Preparedness

The Solid Waste Division of Orlando wants every resident to prepare well for the annual hurricane season. Before a storm, you should remove yard waste previously placed on the curb and store it tight against your home. It is not safe to leave yard waste stacked on the curb when there is a storm coming because the waste can go into storm drains and cause pollution and flooding in your neighborhood.

After the storm, it is important to sort all the storm debris into separate piles based on different waste categories and place them neatly curbside for collection. The six waste categories are normal household trash, vegetative debris, construction & demolition debris, household hazardous waste, electronic waste, and appliances & white goods. Keep in mind that building materials such as lumber and fencing should be separate from vegetative debris like logs and tree branches.

Check out Orlando's guide on how to prepare for the hurricane season in terms of trash and recycling for more information.
