Roll-Off Dumpster Sizes

Sourgum provides all standard US roll-off dumpster sizes, which include 10 cubic yards, 15 cubic yards, 20 cubic yards, 30 cubic yards and 40 cubic yards. The dumpster's name is equivalent to the volume it can hold. For example, a 10-yard dumpster holds 10 cubic yards of debris. A dumpster's capacity and volume are measured in cubic yards, and each cubic yard equals 27 square feet. The roll-off dumpster size you need depends on:

• Quantity of material disposed

• Length of your project

• Type of material disposed

When determining the right dumpster size for you, consider the scope of your project, specifically:

1. The type of material you are discarding

2. The amount of debris you are discarding

3. How long your project will last

If you have an ongoing project, rent a larger size such as a 30- or 40-yard to ensure you have enough capacity. If you have a smaller project, such as an attic cleanout, a 10- or 15-yard dumpster is the best option.

Why is choosing the right dumpster size important?

It's important to choose the right dumpster size to avoid several things:

1. Avoid overage fees: Overage fees occur when your dumpster is above its weight limit. If you try and overstuff a dumpster that is too small, you may end up having to pay an overage fee if your dumpster is too heavy.

2. Avoid overloading fees: Overloading fees happen when you fill your dumpster above the top of the rim. This is a safety hazard for our haulers and if your dumpster is filled incorrectly, we may not be able to haul it to a facility.

3. Avoid renting another dumpster: If you are coming to the end of your dumpster's capacity and still have waste to discard, you may need to rent another dumpster. This can be avoided as long as you choose a dumpster size that is big enough to hold all of your waste.

Start with learning about cubic yards to understand how big a dumpster is. A cubic yard is a measurement of volume. One cubic yard will take up a space that is 3 feet long by 3 feet wide by 3 feet high, or 27 cubic feet (3 x 3 x 3). A 10 yard dumpster is equal to 270 cubic feet (10 x 27), a 20 yard dumpster is equal to 540 cubic ft (20 x 27), and so on.
